Preservation Workshop: Cultural Heritage Storage Environment and Housing

Workshop Description: This one-day workshop is geared towards staff at cultural heritage institutions whose responsibilities include collections care. The morning session will focus the effects of environmental conditions on collections. Particular attention will be paid to temperature, humidity, light, pest management, building issues and housekeeping. The afternoon session will focus on housing collections. Instructors will showcase various commercially available products and discuss their cost/benefit. As part of the workshop, participants will create a custom wrapper and retrofit a commercially available box. Supplies and equipment will be provided. Workshop participants will receive breakfast, snacks, lunch and a preservation toolkit.
