Opportunities for Organizations Panel
December 1, 2021
This November, representatives from different foundations will be speaking on our Opportunities for Organizations Panel. These foundations include The Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, and Illinois Humanities. Take a look at our Workshops Page for more information and to register! The workshop topics have been determined through the BMRC’s Community Needs and Assets Assessment and our Community Discussions, which happened from February to April of 2021. The CNAA surveyed Black Chicagoans about their legacy management needs and access to resources. Following this survey, the BMRC hosted two Community Discussions to present the CNAA results and hear more from community members about which topics they would like to see covered in archival workshops. Our Introduction to Archiving Workshop: Part One covered appraisals, processing, describing, preservation, and access, while Part Two discussed personal digital archiving and digitization. In October, we also hosted a Genealogy Workshop with Genealogist Tony Burroughs and in November, we hosted a Donations and Transfer Agreements panel featuring BMRC member archivists. You can find more information about these events on our Workshops page, including recordings of the archiving workshop sessions and the panel about donations. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for funding this event series through their generous grant, Documenting Black Chicago through Technology, Sustainability, and Outreach.
